Cutting boards, towel racks and other handcrafted/stowage-related stuff.

Though modern when built, the OVNI 435 is now "old school" with its warm, varnished-wood interior and high quality joinerwork.  I feel that any interior modifications or accessories should complement this refined, inviting environment.
What follows are some small details to improve the storage of and the ease of access to regularly-used items.

Cutting boards

These hard maple cutting boards were laminated from a thick 8' plank.  One board fits securely into the large sink, leaving the small sink for prep and other uses.   The other board fits into the top of the galley range.

Towel Rack

While neither rack nor rail, these dish-towel hanging devices were designed and built by my father out of black locust wood and shock cord.

Knife rack and cutting board storage.

Wanted to get this one right,.so I measured and mocked up the bulkhad to the right of the galley sink, and experiemented with the layout..

Cabin Reading Lights

I decided to replace the klassy gold-plated plastic RV-style reading lights with something a bit more versatile, incorporating some really nice black cherry lumber that I’ve had for decades.  This wood mellows to a beautiful deep red/orange ginger snap colour after a year or two.

Fitted Cutlery Tray

This was a refinement I added to Windstar, whose cutlery drawers were located under the side deck in such a way that you could not easily see inside them.  It is made of acrylic plastic, with parts fastened by solvent welding with methylene chloride.
You can see that it is fairly complex and that it very efficiently stows a great deal of stuff.   As a result, the drawer is now far too heavy, so I'll need to stow the spare cutlery elsewhere. (The moral?  simpler is usually better)

Cutlery warning from the UK.

Flashlight bracket.

I have several of my favourite Pelican 3310 flashlights aboard (Thanks MB!) and I beleive they should be visible and easily located.  Made with red oak and black cherry.

Items Under Consideration

Eyeglass Holders

I've destroyed many pairs of glasses over the years by placing them in harm's way.  Not sure how best to approach this yet.

Thermos rack

Having a place for a high quality thermos of equally high quality coffee, and another of hot water was a much appreciated detail on Windstar.   Sakura would benefit from this as well.

Binoculars, horn and hand bearing compass.

Regularly used tools

In Windstar, the small vise grips, one set of pliers and a couple of screwdrivers were in regular rotation.

Hand and dish soaps

Holder for first aid kit
